A mysterious man who has appeared at several car crashes in rural Nebraska has left local residents concerned. According to WOWT, Garrison Beach was cruising along Highway 36 in Douglas County on Sunday (December 8) night when he saw a large piece of metal in the middle of the road.
He swerved to avoid it but ended up crashing through a guardrail and into a ravine on the side of the highway. Luckily, Beach and his wife were unharmed in the crash.
"It was pretty scary," his wife, Skylar, told the news station. "I remember screaming, and I wasn't sure when we'd start rolling, but we were fortunate to walk away from the accident."
The two climbed out of their wrecked car and back onto the highway when a bystander pulled up.
"As soon as we got out of the car, I remember walking up the embankment, and this guy showed up," Garrison said. "He was already there, like, waiting for us up on the side of the road and [said], 'Are you guys okay? I've called the paramedics already. '"
He asked if they wanted to sit in his car until the police arrived, but they declined his offer, and he left the scene.
This wasn't the first time the mysterious man was the first to arrive at a crash on Highway 36. Another motorist, Kyle Sorenson, told the news station he saw the man after he ran over a child's bicycle that was in the middle of the road.
"I hit a kid's bike that had been left right in the center of the road," Sorenson explained. "As I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw someone sitting there [just north] on Pawnee Road. They pulled up behind me, and it was this individual saying he was checking to make sure we were okay."
Sorenson left the scene because there was no damage to his car. When he was driving in the area later, he saw the man again, talking to a motorist whose vehicle was leaking oil.
Authorities said they have received several reports of objects in the roadway and are looking into the matter. They noted that the roadway is the main route to the landfill and are looking into whether the objects fell off garbage trucks or were placed there intentionally.
