SPOKANE, Wash. -A committee assigned to search for sexual education material for the Spokane Public School District has approved a new curriculum for ninth-graders.

The Community Advisory Committee for Human Growth and Development voted 9-2 last night.

The curriculum is based on the 3 Rs: Rights, Respect and Responsibility.

A spokesperson with SPS says the lesson plans will cover healthy relationships, decision-making, some anatomy, gender awareness, contraception, and sexually transmitted disease.

The curriculum will go through a second round of reviews before going to the school board for a vote. That is expected to take place by the end of November.

If approved, SPS says the lesson plans will be implemented at the start of the new calendar year.
