SPOKANE, Wash. -Spokane Superior Court Judge Jim Triplet passed away Wednesday due to health issues. Judge Triplet served on the Superior Court bench since 2010.

Presiding Superior Court Judge Michael P. Price issued a statement Wednesday calling Triplet a "brilliant and thoughtful jurist." The full statement can be read below:

It is with profound regret and sadness that I must inform you of the death of Judge Jim Triplet on

Wednesday, October 24th. As many of you know, Judge Triplet had courageously battled a

number of significant health challenges over the last year and, unfortunately, never fully

recovered.

Judge Triplet spent his entire adult life working selflessly for the citizens of Spokane County,

first as a prominent attorney in private practice, and beginning in 2004, as a Superior Court

Commissioner. In 2010, Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Judge Triplet to the Superior

Court bench, where he quickly established a reputation as a brilliant and thoughtful jurist.

If you were lucky enough to know Judge Triplet, you came to appreciate his quick wit and the

extraordinary devotion he displayed towards his friends. To call Judge Triplet “smart” or “bright”

would hardly suffice to describe a man whose intellect and intelligence was simply unparalleled.

With a sharp knowledge of the law and of world history, Judge Triplet enjoyed engaging in trivia

with friends… especially as it relates to the American Civil War. One came to expect Judge

Triplet would win every time, but you would also learn something in the process.

Most importantly, Judge Triplet was a loving husband to his wife Judy and an inspiration to his

children and grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family at this very

difficult time.
