SPOKANE, Wash. -You may have heard of Christmas in July, but what about Christmas in September? For one first grader in Spokane, her present came a few months early this year, thanks to an unexpected surprise. KHQ visited Mullan Road Elementary School Wednesday to capture a moment that would leave the six-year-old, Kali Crane, speechless.

The scene was set, the kids were sitting in a circle in the gym, but they couldn't see what was behind them.

And what was behind them? Her big brother, Joshua Crane.

Crane is in the Navy, and he's been deployed at Coronado Island for the last seven months.

He wasn't supposed to be back home until Christmas, but when his commander asked if he'd like a few days off, he knew exactly where he wanted to be: Home with his sister.

"We were supposed to see each other at Christmas, we haven't seen each other since March," Crane said.

Kali and Joshua's mother said that her daughter has had a countdown marking off the days until she got to see her big brother again.
