SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -The man opposing Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich in the election this November was killed in a motorcycle crash on Monday in Idaho, according to our partners at The Spokesman Review.
DumpOzzie Dot Com, also known as Scott Maclay before he legally changed his name, was killed when he crashed his motorcycle near St. Maries on Highway 3 Monday afternoon.
Benewah County Sheriff Dave Resser told the Spokesman Review someone riding with Com saw his motorcycle fishtail as he lost control. Resser also told the paper Com was alone on his motorcycle and it was unknown if he was wearing a helmet or not. The cause of the crash was determined to be loose gravel on the roadway.
Com was Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich's sole opponent in the election this November and earned about 12 percent of the vote in the primary election back in August. Com's name will still appear on the ballot as an Independent. Should Com win the seat of Spokane County Sheriff in November, it would create a unique situation in finding a replacement, since Spokane County doesn't officially have an Independent Party.
Sheriff Knezovich was quoted in an interview with The Spokesman Review as saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this tragic time, and we wish them comfort and peace.”
