Man armed with knife shot and killed by Cheney Police officers

CHENEY, Wash. -Cheney Police officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife late Monday night. 

With the assistance of Eastern Washington University Police, Cheney officers were called to a report of an armed man acting disorderly at Mitchell's Harvest Foods. Officers arrived at around 11:40 pm and found a man armed with a knife in the parking lot of the store. 

"The male failed to follow several commands as he moved toward the Officers still armed with the knife in his hand," a press release said. 

Three Cheney officers fired their weapons and hit the man. EWU officers immediately began life-saving efforts until Cheney Fire and AMR arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified. 

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident as part of the SIRR Team. The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Spokane Valley Police Department and the Cheney Police Department.

The three officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
