SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -Update: The intersection of Broadway and Francher has reopened late Tuesday night after a grease spill closed roads for hours. Spokane Valley Police say the intersection reopened around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Previous coverage:

The Spokane Valley Police Department says the intersection of Broadway and Fancher will be closed throughout the evening and possibly into tomorrow as crews work to clean up a food grease spill.

SVPD says used food grease and fat leaked from a faulty hatch of a semitrailer Tuesday, causing extremely slick conditions. Other cars drove through the spill, spreading the grease fat in all directions. Because of the conditions, arriving deputies closed the roadway.

City of Spokane Valley crews are on scene working to clean the spill, but the police department says the conditions are too slick and not safe for travel. Cleanup is expected to last throughout the evening commute and possibly into Wednesday.
