K9 Grizzly subdues hatchet-assault suspect hiding in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. -Grant Couny Sheriff's K9 Grizzly helped track down a suspect from an assault involving a hatchet Tuesday afternoon in Lakeview.

Deputies were called around 5:45 p.m. for an assault with a hatchet in the 100 block of Adrian Ave. Officers later learned the suspect was hiding at a home nearby on Ephrata Ave.

The occupant of the home confirmed the suspect, 28-year-old Nunez Diaz, was inside and said she wanted him out of her house.

K9 Grizzly and Deputy De La Rosa went inside and found Diaz hiding under blankets. After refusing to surrender, Diaz was subdued by K9 Grizzly and deputies took him into custody.

Diaz was treated at Samaritan Hospital for dog bites and then booked in the Grant County Jail for charges related to the assault and outstanding warrants.

The 32-year-old male assault victim was treated and released from a local hospital. The reason for the assault was unclear.
