SPOKANE, Wash. -A group of roughly 100 protesters gathered outside The Spokane Club Monday afternoon, alleging ties between President Donald Trump and Russia.
The protestors, many of which were holding signs, were critical of U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, who was visiting with Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Nunes, the California Republican and chairman of the House’s Intelligence Committee, is at the center of controversy in the investigation into Russian meddling with U.S. elections.
The Spokesman-Review reports the fundraising lunch cost $250 a plate or $500 to meet with Nunes.
A spokesman for the congresswoman, Jared Powell released the following statement:
“Cathy is delivering real results for the people of Eastern Washington. In the past year, she’s had ten bills pass the House and five signed into law to get things done for the people she represents, in addition to helping people like Cat Davis. Liberal Lisa Brown, Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked candidate, is out of touch with Eastern Washington values and priorities with what Cook Political Report has described as her 'very liberal voting record in Olympia, including fighting to raise taxes and tuition hikes.”
Lisa Brown issued the following statement by email Monday night:
"Congress is broken, taken over by special interests and not fixing skyrocketing health care costs, or standing up to the administration’s reckless tariffs and trade war. After 14 years Cathy McMorris Rodgers is part of the problem and she’s resorting to false attacks to hold on to her job. I work with people to get things done, like our new medical school, and in Congress will put families and farmers in eastern Washington over either political party."
