SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Two people are in the hospital recovering from a crash into a power pole and tree. It happened off of Government Way and Houston in Spokane on the Fourth of July.

A Spokane County deputy says the car was driving south on Government Way when it crashed, hitting a power pole and landing into a tree. According to Avista's outage map, at least 65 customers were left without power.

Madison Risley witnessed what happened. “It was just my car and their car and all of a sudden, I saw them flip and rollover into the ditch and I saw the telephone pole go down and the wire fly across the street onto my car. I wasn't worried about my car, I was worried about them getting the help they needed," said Risley.

She immediately called 911. “A little scary. I never witnessed something like that," said Risley.

KHQ was there as both the driver and passenger were pulled out of the car. "Everyone here was very professional and the firefighters did a great job. All the first responders are awesome," said Risley.

Deputies say the man and woman have minor injuries and are expected to be OK. Why the car crashed into the tree is still a big question. The crash remains under investigation.
