North Spokane double hit-and-run suspect caught

Thanks to an alert citizen, Spokane Police were able to catch a driver who crashed into two cars near Ash and Garland on Thursday and then ran from the scene.

Police say the driver of an SUV was heading west on Garland at a high rate of speed and crashed into a silver car, and then another vehicle. All three cars were totaled and the driver of the SUV took off on foot. A citizen saw the driver running and followed them while on the phone with 911. Thanks to that citizen's alertness, officers were able to find the driver and take them into custody. The driver has not yet been identified.

The occupants of the other two cars suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say a dog was thrown from one of the cars and ran off. By early afternoon, the dog, named Riptide, was found and SCRAPS reunited him with his family.
