Two Spokane County Fire District 8 paramedics receive EMS Hero award

SPOKANE, Wash. -Spokane County Fire District 8 received a few awards recognizing their response during the Freeman School Shooting.

“Freeman’s always in our minds and hearts. You see the signs in our facilities and the stickers on the vehicles,” says Fire Chief Tony Nielsen. “It’s had a huge impact on our organization.”

That day, they responded and two of the paramedics, Nate Hawley and Amanda Austin, who were on scene got the EMS Hero award.

“I'm just very proud of our responders. They love what they do. They are excellent people and excellent firefighters and paramedics,” he says.

The entire fire district also received the Excellence in EMS award. Nielsen would like to thank the community their support.
