SPOKANE, Wash. -The man accused of raping, assaulting and harassing a woman he met online made his first appearance before a judge on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives said 35-year-old Torrey T. Gambill met the woman on the popular dating app Tinder. They believe the assault took place at his North Spokane County home. The victim said she had consensual sex with Gambill, but that things suddenly took a violent turn. She claims she told Gambill to stop and he said no. The victim told deputies Gambill hit her and put his hands on her throat.
After the story broke on Monday, other women, who also say they met Gambill online, came forward to detail their disturbing interactions with him.
One woman, who asked not to be identified, said at first, he seemed like quite a catch.
"He was attractive," she said. "He seemed successful. He talked about his family."
This particular woman even met him in person, but said red flags popped up quickly.
"It was when I wouldn't do what he wanted that he started to get really mean," she said. "I wasn't surprised at all (by the news of his arrest.)"
The women we spoke with urge anyone using apps or the internet to find love to use extreme caution. One woman said she runs background checks on potential dates before saying yes.
Gambill does have a criminal history out of a Spokane County. Back in 2006, a girlfriend accused him of strangling her so hard, she thought she could be killed.
His bond was set at $100,000.
