SPOKANE, Wash. -UPDATE: Spokane Police say a man has been killed in an officer-involved shooting in Hillyard Tuesday night.

Spokane Police Chief Craig Meidl reports that around 6 o'clock police received a call of a domestic violence situation with a weapon. While taking the report, the 911 dispatcher could hear shots being fired in the background of the call.

When officers arrived the suspect had left the scene. Police continued conducting their investigation and the suspect returned to the home near Haven and Rowan, at which point the man fired at the officers.

Chief Meidl says the officers returned fire and hit the man several times. The officers rendered aid to the man, who was taken to an area hospital where he later died. No officers were injured.

Those officers involved will be put on administrative leave while Washington State Patrol and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office conduct an officer-involved shooting investigation.

Chief Meidl reports one of the officers was wearing a body camera at the time, but it was unclear whether the body camera was on at the time.
