Man found dead, covered in blood in north Spokane

Update: 

Late Thursday afternoon, Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives arrested 35-year-old Matthew C. Bossard, charging him with 1st Degree Murder.

As the investigation continued throughout the day, detectives developed information confirming the deceased was a victim of domestic violence homicide.  Investigators will remain at the scene late into the evening and plan to return tomorrow to continue the investigation. 

Domestic violence continues to plague our community and is a factor in over 80% of the homicide investigations conducted by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office & Spokane Valley Major Crimes Detectives (2016 until today). 

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the decedent at a later time when appropriate.

Spokane County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives are investigating a man's suspicious death as a homicide. 

Deputies were called to a home on N. Whitehouse Thursday morning near Evergreen Elementary. A caregiver told deputies she arrived at the home to provide assistance to a family member living in the house and discovered an unconscious man, covered in blood, in the bathroom. 

Firefighters were called and provided medical assistance, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

"Due to the suspicious nature and injuries sustained by the male, Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to conduct the investigation as a possible homicide," the Sheriff's Office said in a press release. 

Detectives are investigating and processing the scene. They do not believe there is any risk to the public associated with the investigation. 

N. Whitehouse Drive, between W. Shasta Way and N. Weipert Drive, will be closed to traffic except for resident go to, or from, their homes.
