SPOKANE, Wash. -The Spokane Police Department is investigating a serious crash that occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of Sprague/Division. The intersection was closed for just over 6 hours as investigators processed the scene. Anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t spoken to police yet is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

Last night, July 16, 2017, just before 10:00pm, Spokane Police Officers responded to the report of a crash at the intersection Sprague and Division. It was reported that one vehicle had flipped over during the collision. Officers and other emergency personnel arriving on scene found a white minivan and a black SUV had collided. Witnesses reported it was the black SUV, eastbound on Sprague, that ran the red light, colliding with the minivan, which was northbound on Division.

Originally medics on scene reported the infant in the minivan had potentially life threatening injuries. It also took quite some time to extricate the driver of the minivan out of the vehicle because of the extensive damage to the vehicle and the fact it had rolled over onto the driver’s side. Later in the evening, the status of the infant was upgraded to stable with non-life threatening injuries.

All of the occupants involved were transported to area hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Due to the egregious nature of the crash, injuries to the occupants, and the belief that drugs and/or alcohol may be involved, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) as well as Crash Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

No charges have been filed at this time, but investigators will be processing all evidence from the scene, blood that was drawn from the suspect, as well as statements from witnesses. The intersection has reopened in time for the morning commute.
