SPOKANE, Wash. -On Monday night at approximately 6:15 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported explosion where an adult male was severely injured at a residence located in the 35800 block of N. Waldrons Ln. in North Spokane County.
According to witnesses a 59-year-old male was attempting to make some type of explosive device when it unexpectedly detonated. Officials say the man is reported to have mental health issues, may not have been taking his medications, and appeared to be paranoid.
Deputies say he suffered severe, life-threatening injuries and was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital where as of Tuesday morning, he was listed in critical condition.
Due to the severity of this incident, Major Crimes Detectives and Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) Technicians responded to the scene to continue the investigation into this incident.
No one else was hurt.
No arrests have been made at this time.
