COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -Multiple crews responded to a report of a cougar in a tree in Coeur d'Alene Monday.
"I think time is on our side," Coeur d'Alene Police Detective, Jay Wilhelm, said.
Indeed, it was.
Coeur d'Alene Police, Fire and members of the Idaho Fish and Game cornered the male mountain lion, which was nested up in a tree near Qualfon on Ironwood Drive.
The cat brought quite the panic with it being so close to businesses and Kootenai Health, Ironwood Drive was blocked off for most of Monday afternoon.
People stopped what they were doing at work to come and watch the spectacle that was this all-hands-on deck operation to remove the mountain lion.
Crews from the Idaho Fish and Game shot the mountain lion once with a tranquilizer dart, but it didn't bring down the cat.
Then, Coeur d'Alene police shot it with a non-lethal bean bag, still didn't bring it down.
Their last resort was the fire department coming in with their ladder truck and clearing branches.
Once the cat was down, IDFG crews say they brought back to their office in Coeur d'Alene where it was euthanized.
Officials say they had to put the cougar down because they said ultimately there just wasn't a safe distance they could find to re-locate the cat.
