Silver Lake Fire burning west of Spokane

UPDATE 7:30: Emergency crews say all evacuations for the Silver Lake Fire have been downgraded to level 2 as of Monday evening.

UPDATE 7 p.m.: Washington State Patrol reports that all lanes of Interstate 90 have reopened. Lanes were closed Monday afternoon while emergency crews responded to a wildfire in the area.

The Silver Lake Fire was 100 acres at last report. The Department of Natural Resources reports the fire is 10 percent contained Monday evening.

State fire mobilization was also approved for the fire Monday night. That means firefighters from across the state will be responding to the fire in the coming days.

UPDATE 5 p.m.: Guy Gifford with the Department of Natural Resources says the Silver Lake Fire is now 10 percent contained as of 5 p.m. Monday evening.

Gifford says firefighters are still working hard to strengthen fire lines and suppress the fire with air support. 

The Silver Lake Fire is about 13 miles west of Spokane near milepost 265, just east of the Salnave Road (Hwy 902) exit for Cheney and Medical Lake.  One Eastbound lane of I-90 has reopened, and one westbound lane remains open, but traffic there is heavy.

Fire crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the night and work to increase containment percentage. 

UPDATE 4:49 p.m.: Washington State Patrol reports one eastbound lane of Interstate 90 near milepost 264 is now open as firefighters continue to fight the Silverlake fire Monday evening.

Please continue to use caution and watch for emergency vehicles if you're driving through the area.

UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: Washington State Department of Natural Resources says the Silver Lake Fire burning near Medical Lake is immediately threatening 100 structures Monday afternoon.

Guy Gifford with DNR tells KHQ that 11 different agencies are responding to the fire, which was 100 acres in size at last report. More than 100 firefighters are responding to the fire, as well as four aircraft and three bulldozers, used to dig a fire line. 

The Silver Lake Fire is about 13 miles west of Spokane near milepost 265, just east of the Salnave Road (Hwy 902) exit for Cheney and Medical Lake.  Eastbound lanes of I-90 are closed with a detour in place. One lane of westbound I-90 is open, but traffic there is heavy. Please avoid the area.

There is no word yet on whether any homes have been lost as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

UPDATE 3 p.m: Level 3 evacuation orders have been issued for residents along Granite Lake Road between Betz Road and Salnave Road due to a 100-acre wildfire near Medical Lake.

A Level 3 evacuation means residents in the area should leave immediately.

UPDATE: 2:38 pm

Washington State DNR says the fire west of Spokane off of I-90 is an estimated 100 acres and is threatening homes. The fire has been dubbed the Silver Lake Fire and has high growth potential. Right now the fire is burning in a forested area. 

Eastbound lanes of I-90 are still closed with a detour in place. One lane of westbound I-90 is open. 

Washington State Patrol says I-90 is CLOSED approximately 13 miles west of Spokane due to a brush fire burning near milepost 264. 

There is a detour in place at Salnave Road for eastbound traffic, however, a detour for westbound traffic has not yet been established. Washington State Patrol says westbound lanes are not fully blocked and one lane is open, however, Troopers are asking you give firefighters room to work. 

The fire is located six miles south of Medical Lake. 

Avoid the area if you can.
