SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating a one-vehicle crash that killed the driver and sent two passengers to the hospital Saturday night.

Deputies responded to the scene of the crash in the 18700 block of S. North Bank Rd. in North Spokane County around 9 p.m.

Initial information indicated that a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was headed south on S. North Bank Rd. when it attempted to pass another vehicle. The young adult driver lost control of the pickup and went off the road, hitting a fence and a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The two young adult passengers were taken, one by ambulance and one by Life Flight helicopter, to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies reported Sunday morning that one passenger was treated and released from the hospital. The other passenger remains in the hospital with injuries that were described as serious, but not life-threatening.

Traffic investigators were at the scene of the crash for several hours overnight. Roads were reopened in the area around 4:15 a.m. Impairment, speed and reckless driving appear to be possible contributing factors of the crash.

The driver has not yet been identified.
