Campaign sign theft caught on camera

SPOKANE, Wash. -Surveillance video shows the moment a young man got out of a car and took a campaign sign from the front yard of someone’s home.

The incident happened on the 400 block of W 14th Ave. on Wednesday at 10:35 p.m.

While it’s likely a prank, Spokane police say the consequences can be serious.

According to SPD, the penalty for stealing campaign signs is up to one-year in jail or up to a $1,000 fine or both.

SPD does not track the number of signs that are stolen each year.
