SPOKANE, Wash. -A month after the nationwide school walkouts on March 14th, more are planned for this Friday on National Walkout Day. These walkouts fall on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine high school shooting.
Taking part in the event are students from Lewis and Clark High School.
“Here at LC, we will be walking downtown to the tribal gathering place. There will be a citywide rally there,” said Lewis and Clark junior Haley Morris
The walkouts are a nationwide protest after students say lawmakers in Washington D.C. have failed to pass laws which would protect them from gun violence. Lewis and Clark is not the only school in Spokane taking part in the walkouts. Students from Ferris High School, Shadle High School and students from West Valley will also be participating in their own walkout.
According to Freeman High School administration, they will have their own walkout and students will able to participate as long as they have received parental permission for the event.
Morris just wants their message to be heard.
"We want administers and politicians and leaders to know we are here and are not going to stay silent and we will keep fighting for what is right."
