Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is again condemning China's crackdown on Hong Kong.
Pompeo told reporters that Chinese President Xi made the choice to violate the sovereignty of the former British colony. He insisted that the free world should not tolerate the abuses against the people of Hong Kong.
Pompeo said international pressure on Beijing is growing, including the imposition of U.S. sanctions.
Pompeo ripped China's response to the coronavirus, saying Beijing should have been much more transparent during the early days of the outbreak.
Pompeo acknowledged that the nature of the relationship between the U.S. and China has changed, but noted that the two nations continue to have "dialogues" on a range of important issues, including the longstanding trade dispute.
