Over Two Dozen Students Fall Sick During Thanksgiving Prayer In School Gym

26 students and one adult had to be hospitalized after becoming ill during a Thanksgiving prayer in the gym at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After being dismissed from the gym, some of the affected students started complaining that they were having difficulty breathing, while others started having nosebleeds and becoming light-headed. A few of the students suffered seizures and passed out.

Everybody is listed in stable condition at various hospitals and all those affected are expected to make a full recovery.

The school was placed in lockdown while hazmat crews swept the building for over 5,000 different containments, which all came back negative. Authorities said they are unsure what caused the sudden outbreak at the school, but assured parents that multiple tests have shown the air in the school is safe and they believe it was an isolated incident.

“There was nothing found in any of the hazmat sweeps,” Fort Lauderdale Fire Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan explained. "There is no rhyme or reason at this time. We really don’t know. It’s very, very weird.”

Investigators have ruled out drugs or a prank, but continue to look into what caused so many people to suddenly become sick.
