A FedEx Airlines cargo plane was forced to make an emergency "belly" landing in Istanbul, Turkey after its front landing gear failed to deploy. The Boeing 767 was flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France to Istanbul Airport on Wednesday (May 8) morning.

As the plane prepared to land, the pilot informed air traffic controllers that its landing gear was not working. Fire crews were dispatched to the runway as the cargo plane landed. As its rear wheels touched down, the aircraft tipped forward, causing the nose to drag along the runway, creating sparks and smoke. The plane stayed on the runway as it skidded to a stop.

The emergency crews sprayed the plane with firefighting foam as a precaution. The runway was temporarily closed, but the incident did not impact operations at the airport.

The pilot and crew members were evacuated from the plane and were unharmed in the crash landing.

Authorities in Turkey said they have launched an investigation into the incident.
