Widespread thunder and lightning made for a wild night Monday across the Inland Northwest.

Lightning struck a tree in Riverfront Park, frightening visitors, including 7-year-old Ethan Batsch and his family. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Ethan and his family were on their way to dinner when the lightning struck the tree a few feet away from them.

The weather also caught people off-guard in Coeur d’Alene when it turned from sweltering hot to overcast and pouring.

Others did not mind the rain and decided to brave the storm.

“We went swimming; the rain didn’t stop us” said another visitor at Lake Coeur d’Alene.
