Washington State Patrol said that there have been no charges filed in the investigation into a fatal head-on car crash that killed a 21-year-old woman in August.

Officials said Brett Birge was going high speeds when he hit Brittany Babinski head-on. She died later in a hospital. The Washington State Patrol said that they suspected drugs and alcohol were a factor. Birge was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Seven weeks later, Washington State Patrol investigators are likely still waiting for results from the crime lab. They said they often need to re-interview witnesses in these cases and it is typical to take this long to complete an investigation.

The WSP said the prosecutors office can decide if charges will be filed after their investigation is complete.
