Fire crews said a homeowner trying to get rid of weeds by his home ended up catching his garage on fire.
Firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire at 102 West Amherst around noon Saturday. Crews arrived on scene and were able to put the fire out.
Officials said the homeowner returned to the scene after the fire was put out. He told fire investigators that he had burned off weeds with a propane torch behind the garage, and then went out for lunch. Authorities determined that is what caused the fire.
Fire crews said portions of two exterior walls and the roof of the garage were damaged by the fire.
