>>Red Sox Roll Mariners 

David Ortiz hit a two-run homer and knocked in three runs to power the Red Sox to an 11-4 win over the Mariners in Seattle.  Ortiz also became the all-time leader in hits at the designated hitter position, passing Harold Baines.  Aaron Harang gave up seven runs in five-plus frames for the loss.  Brendan Ryan belted a solo homer for Seattle.

The Mariners and Red Sox close out a four-game set this afternoon.  Boston has taken two of the first three to drop Seattle to 40-and-51.  The M's send Erasmo Ramirez to the hill, who is making his first start of the year.  The Sox counter with Ryan Dempster.      

>>Saint Mary's Hires Jim Shaw 

Former Washington assistant Jim Shaw was hired as a special assistant to Saint Mary's head coach Randy Bennett.  Shaw's contract wasn't renewed by the Huskies in June.  Shaw was on the Washington staff for nine seasons.

The Spokane Indians took game one of the five-game series with the Salem-Keisey Volcanoes, squeaking out a 4-3 win.  SK is in first place in the South Division while Spokane has won 4 in a row and is 9-1 over the last 10 games. The Indians are 4 games back in the North Division.
