The little man with the gigantic helemt brought his big stick again. Nick Franklin homered twice and knocked in four runs as the Mariners held on to top the Twins 6-4 at Safeco Field. Michael Saunders also went deep for the M's, who earned a split in the four-game series. Erasmo Ramirez allowed four runs over six innings as he improved to 2-and-0. Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 24th save.
>>Wedge Meets With Mariners
Mariners manager Eric Wedge met privately with the team before Sunday's game. It was Wedge's first visit to clubhouse in almost a week after suffering a mild stroke before Monday's game. Bench coach Robby Thompson has been managing the team and there is no timetable for Wedge's return to the dugout. It won't be before August 5th against Toronto.
>>Husky Football Picked To Finish Fourth In Division
The Washington Huskies were picked to finish fourth in the six-team Pac-12 North Division by the media on Friday at Pac-12 Media Day. Washington State was picked to finish in last place. The favorite to win both the North Division and the conference championship is Oregon.
>>Sounders Earn Comeback Win
Erick Torres scored in the 16th minute to give Chivas USA a one goal lead, but Seattle responded with a pair of goals as the Sounders rallied for a 2-1 win. Seattle scored in the 23rd and 57th minutes to pull out the victory. Brad Evans got the equalizer and Lamar Neagle the winner. The Sounders improved to 8-7-and-4 in MLS play.

The U.S. men's soccer team won the CONCACAF Gold Cup 1-0 with Sunday's win over Panama at Soldier Field. Brek Shea scored the only goal the Americans needed in the 69th minute as they went undefeated in all six matches of the North American championship. It's the fifth Gold Cup title for the Americans in history.
